My focus will be on The Art of Everyday Life - building relationships while making useful, sometimes beautiful items including clothing, textiles, baskets, lanterns and other functional objects. I want to meet the neighbours and hear what they’d like to co-create. I'll be scheduling free public art offerings plus I'll be available to assist with your own projects - as appropriate. Guest Artist Demo + Talk | Maple Tree Square
Sunday, July 7 / 1 - 4 pm Two local artists host interactive art demos!
1:00 - 2:30 pm: Reggie from House of Kewpie will lead us in making Post-it Portraits - check out their Instagram
What started as a doodle of a tattooed kewpie mayo baby turned into my artist brand identity - and it embraces it so well. Cute but alternative; simple lines but not boring; add a little attitude with House of Kewpie art! I've been an avid draw-er from a young age, and never grew out of it. Art is a form of expression and communication to me, and it helps me reconcile the world as it is and as I see/experience it.
2:30 - 4pm: Rosemary Burd will show us her unique style of stitching, mending and photography
Check out her Instagram
Self-taught as an embroiderer and a photographer, Vancouver-based Rosemary Burd has been creating her shaky iPhone photographs for over a decade, and embroidering since 2018. It was only during the pandemic that she began combining these two very different practices. Her work has been exhibited in BC, Ontario, and Quebec.
Guest Artist Demos + Talks | Maple Tree Square
Sunday, July 21 / 1-4 pm
1:00 - 2:30 pm: Madhu from Something Sketchy
Madhuvanthi Mohan aka Something Sketchy is an illustrator from Bangalore, India, who has recently moved to Mount Pleasant, Vancouver with her partner and their ginger rescue cat Thimmi. Her upcoming solo show 'The Journey' Aug 1-4 at Slice Gallery, is about the highs and lows of artist life, and will feature abstract modern art canvases, ceramics, film and merchandise.
She cares very deeply about bringing the illustrator community together and runs an illustrators' group called The Sketchup where she has hosted intimate, informal, underground gatherings, across India and now in Vancouver. She also curates and organises art shows and festivals.
2:30 - 4pm: Sandra Diaz
Sandra Diaz is a Vancouver based artist and illustrator. Born in Bogotá, Colombia, her image making has been heavily informed by her experience as a Latín American immigrant woman, as well as her interest in experimenting with and combining media.
Sunday, August 4 / 1-4 pm
1:00 - 2:30 pm:
2:30 - 4pm: Raeny Tuesday
Rae is an interdisciplinary creator, connecting the worlds of art, music, and builder culture. Their visual art focuses on medium exploration and play, often evoking the subjects of water, dark academia, and music. In this concert sketching demo, Rae blends their love of concert photography and visual art making.
Inspired by Kerel Alaas, a working sketcher at a Sofar concert in 2019, Rae has been pulling from a library of study (anatomy, gesture drawing, caricature, the form of instruments, typography) to quickly capture fleeting musical moments ever since.
The perfect harmony between being present, documenting memories, and co-creating -- learn concert sketching as a tool to create lasting shared memories for both the artist and musician.

Autumn Fibre & Film Celebration
Moberly Arts Centre | 7646 Prince Albert St, Vancouver, BC
Sunday October 15 1-4pm
Join us for this very special afternoon that includes a unique opportunity to work with fireweed and nettle; both wild plant fibres for spinning and rope making. Experienced spinners are invited to try the first few prototypes of blackberry composite drop spindles made from the stalks of invasive Himalayan blackberry, using both the nettle fibres and local fleece dyed with local plants, including fireweed.
All of this fibre exploration is a lead up to our feature event of screening The Nettle Dress, a film made by Dylan Howitt that documents British artist Allan Brown’s seven year process of foraging nettles in his nearby forests and learning all the processes through to weaving a dress.
The trailer to the film will be a film-short made by local community members working with the Echo Park Film Collective that shows the making of the drop spindles and processing of fibres we have just been handling- the film itself processed in nettles!
Total screening time for both films is approximately 1.15 minutes and will be followed by a short and informal Q and A with several of the artists in these projects.

Wet Felting Guild with Amy Walker
Tuesdays 3-4:30 pm - Maximum 8 participants
Aug 12 & 26 / Sept. 9 & 23 / Oct 7 & 21
Cost: $75 Sign up here
About
A group for people interested in wet felting with wool, together online. We'll help each other learn and answer questions, while making felt fabric, garments, hats, sculpture etc. Open to experienced as well as novice felters. Knowledge & skill-share; show & tell; materials information and co-inspiration.
This 3-month program allows time for individual material inquiry and project development with regular check-ins for support. The first session will be an introduction to all the participants and a discussion of our experience and current interests/directions regarding wet felting. After intros we’ll have an introductory wet felting demo.
Setup
You’ll need a comfortable height table to work at where you can have your Zoom computer or phone set up and you can also get the table wet (or a way of containing the water in a certain area - like a rubber mat with a 1-2 inch edge.) This might mean having a separate table for your computer so you don’t get it wet while you’re felting. I work in my back yard with the computer on the porch. If you need some feedback on how to set up your space, we can help with that on the first session.
Materials
Participants can use their own wool roving or fleeces. (Not all wool will felt, so we can get you making samples) or EartHand has some raw fleece for sale, $15 for an ⅛ of fleece or Amy has white carded merino sliver (19 micron) available for sale.
Tools
Will be discussed on the first night + Amy has basic wet felting kits (22”x35” blue bubble, screen, dowel, pool noodle) for $25 that she can deliver to guild members in Vancouver.
About EartHand Guilds
A series of nature and studio groups that meet virtually and regularly, to share and learn. Led by skill holders who focus the lens to a specific area of inquiry, these sessions are opportunities to share seasonal delights and learnings with other like-minded individuals.
Skill holders act as guides and facilitators, leading the way for what is seasonally happening and relevant in the area of exploration. From technical demos and seasonal notes of interest for the first session each month followed by personal research time, and a follow up group share and a ‘ lessons learned’ exchange.
Like book clubs for nature and the studio, which club do you want to join?
Fees paid will go directly to support the facilitator, EartHands’ earned revenue is supported by BC Arts Council Resilience Funds this year.
These guilds are pilot programs we are happy to be offering as we experiment in how to be learning together while physically apart. Skill holders who are leading guilds may jump in and participate in each others sessions to make for some fun cross-guild pollination!
Participants will need a device with a working camera and microphone in order to participate and be able to access the internet while the group meets thru a zoom call instigated by the guild facilitator.
These are small, committed groups - register early to avoid disappointment!
